A ‘must have’ photo from every wedding is a glamour shot of the gown. Finding the perfect spot to take such a photo is not always easy… hotel rooms are not generally very large … add family and the bridal party and, well, it’s just not generally conducive to getting a great shot. That’s where creativity comes in. I often just grab the gown on the hanger, leave the hotel room, and look for a backdrop. Sometimes it’s hanging it in a doorway, in front of a beautifully colored wall, or something a little edgier.
Last weekend I found myself with the gown, shoes and bouquet in the parking garage of the hotel. My co-photographer jumped on the hood of her SUV (we stop at NOTHING to get a shot!), hung the dress on an exposed pipe and we got some fabulous, urban-feel shots. I also ‘borrowed’ a luggage cart and used that as a prop, too. I’m very happy with the results.
That’s called working with what you’ve got, and turning a negative into a positive!!!
